Field and deco at once
The hexagons are the field
There is no plain eight inch hexagon in this collection, so the five hexagon designs run as the whole surface rather than being set into one.
Six designs, each screened by hand in black or in white, twelve tiles in all. The screen is the only color decision, and there is no palette behind it.
The sixth design is the exception. It is a 4x4, its drawing completes across four tiles rather than sitting on one, and there is a plain Tierra Madre 4x4 to scatter it into.
Walls and floors, inside and out. Good in wet and freeze thaw conditions.

Every design is screened in both, so each pair below is the same drawing twice and the only difference is the screen.
Black reads as a hard graphic against the clay. White sinks into it and reads as bleached.

Design 10 takes four tiles to finish. The drawing runs across a block of four 4x4 tiles rather than sitting on one, so it is ordered in fours and set as a panel. The five hexagons each carry their whole drawing.

This is the one collection we make that goes on a wall, on a floor, indoors, outside, and through a winter. That range is the reason to use it and it is also the reason the setting matters more here than anywhere else.

Custom is the standard
Two pieces or ten thousand
We started as a custom shop and we still run that way. Send a chip. Bring a swatch. Show us what you're building. We match a glaze to a color you already have, cut shapes that do not exist yet, and turn your own artwork into a handpainted design. A sample is fired before any production commitment.
The material
Built to outlast the install
The craft is in the maker's hands. The performance is in the fired clay body. ARTO publishes CSI 3-Part specifications and installation guides so architects and designers can specify with confidence.

The mix
Blonde Body Ceramic, Square Edge
Handcrafted in Gardena from high fired blonde terracotta, half an inch thick with square edges and corners. The face is distressed rather than smooth, so the drawing sits on a surface that already looks worked. Every piece is made by hand, so size varies across a run.

The color
Black or White, and No Palette
Six designs, each silk screened by hand in black or in white over bare clay. There is no glaze color to choose, which is the whole point: the color is the clay and the screen is the drawing.
