Field and deco

The field is the Studio field

Peninsula is the Studio field in two glazes, with Peninsula drawings set into it.

Blue Satin and Pure White, and nothing else. The field runs 6x6, 4x4, 3x3 and 3x6, all on a red body at half an inch.

The decos come at 6x6 and 4x4 and are sold by the piece, so you order the number of drawings you are going to set. Two murals sit alongside the thirty four, sold as complete sets rather than by the piece.

Interior walls and floors. Good in wet conditions. Ask us before you put it anywhere else.

The field

Blue Satin and Pure White

The field is made in these two and nothing else, at 6x6, 4x4, 3x3 and 3x6. Both can be ordered as a chip, which is the only honest way to judge a glaze.

  • The body Red clay, half an inch, on the same Monrovia red body bisque as the rest of the ceramic line.
  • The sizes 6x6, 4x4, 3x3 and 3x6 in the field. Decos at 6x6 and 4x4.
  • The color No screen shows a glaze truthfully. The chip is the only way to judge one.

The decos are sold by the piece. Two sizes rather than four, 6x6 and 4x4, at the same actual dimensions and the same weights as the field tiles they sit beside.

Coverage is based on a 1/4 inch grout joint.

The Studio trim fits it. Because the field is the Studio field, the Studio accessories run with it: surface bullnose, cove base, quarter round, V cap, mouldings, chair rails and liners. Ask us for the pieces your job needs.

The decos are the collection: fruit and tulips, a lobster, a seahorse, a lighthouse, a crab, a shell, a bear, a horse, a rooster, a deer, a butterfly.

Twenty five at 6x6 and nine at 4x4. Four of the designs are made in both sizes, which is why the size is part of the name.

Two, sold as sets

Two of the drawings run across several tiles instead of sitting on one, so they are ordered as a complete set rather than by the piece.

  • Peninsula Virgin, the whole design laid up Peninsula Virgin Twelve 4x4 tiles to the design, three across and four down.
  • Peninsula Vase, the whole design laid up Peninsula Vase Six 6x6 tiles to the design, two across and three down.

Finished size depends on the joint you set them at, so tell us the wall and we will work it out with you. Lay it out.

Applications

Where Peninsula can go

A short list, and a deliberate one. The substrate matters as much as the tile, so send us the drawing if you are unsure.

Good in wet conditions, and interior only. Ask us before you take Peninsula outside, and send us the drawing if the substrate is anything out of the ordinary.

Thirty four drawings and a plain field go together more ways than anyone can hold in their head.

Scatter them one to every ninth tile, run them as a band at eye level, or pack a panel solid. The two murals are already arranged. Everything else is yours to place.

Two pieces or ten thousand

We started as a custom shop and we still run that way. Send a chip. Bring a swatch. Show us what you're building. We match a glaze to a color you already have, cut shapes that do not exist yet, and turn your own artwork into a handpainted design. A sample is fired before any production commitment.

The material

Built to outlast the install

The craft is in the maker's hands. The performance is in the fired clay body. ARTO publishes CSI 3-Part specifications and installation guides so architects and designers can specify with confidence.

    Red Body Ceramic

    Handcrafted in Gardena from high fired terracotta, a red body at half an inch. The field is the Studio field and the drawings are screened onto the same body, at 6x6 and 4x4. Every piece is made by hand, so size varies across a run.

    Two Field Glazes

    Blue Satin and Pure White, and nothing else. Thirty four screened drawings and two murals are set into that field, so what carries a Peninsula wall is the drawing rather than the glaze.
