West Elm Store, Downtown Los Angeles

At the West Elm store in downtown Los Angeles, the front of the long checkout desk is clad in ARTO's handcrafted 6" ceramic 3D Compass Star tile in an Alabaster glaze. Each square tile is pressed with a faceted star that radiates from the center, and as the tiles meet, the points join into a continuous field of ridges and shadows. The soft white glaze picks up the store lighting, so the pattern changes as you walk past, while the black store lettering sits right on top of the tile. Framed by a dark wood counter and set against a polished concrete floor, the textured face turns a simple service desk into a feature wall.
