Reynolds Deco Staircase, Torrance

In this Torrance home, Tracy Bennett Design used a mix of ARTO deco tile to make the staircase the focal point of the entry. Every riser carries a different black-and-white pattern, from rosettes and medallions to star and floral motifs, set between warm oak treads and a black iron railing. The tile wraps around the curved first step, where the pattern follows the rounded base. At the foot of the stairs, a short hallway ends in an arched niche lined with the same deco tile, framing a pair of metal heron sculptures. The crisp graphic patterns stand out against the white walls and light wood floors, and the varied mix keeps the eye moving from step to step.
