Palos Verdes Kaleidoscope Fireplace

Designed by Molly Lee Interior Design, this covered loggia in Palos Verdes centers on an outdoor fireplace faced in ARTO's hand-painted Kaleidoscope deco tile. The 8x8 decos wrap the firebox in a wide frame, and where the tiles meet, their star and petal shapes join into large rosettes in red, orange, green, blue and charcoal on a cream ground. Set against smooth plaster and a stone floor, the colorful surround becomes the focal point of an outdoor living room furnished with deep sofas, and it stays in view from the outdoor kitchen and the garden beyond. Each tile is painted by hand, so the lines and color carry slight variations that give the pattern a crafted, old-world feel.
