The Story
Designed by JZA Architecture, this two-story Culver City home sets light vertical wood siding above a ground floor clad in ARTO's Newport Brick in Charcoal. The long, slim bricks are laid in tight running courses that wrap the garage, the entry porch and the deep-set windows, and continue around the side of the house to a sliding glass door. Up close, the handcrafted brick shows rough, layered faces and shifting tones from near-black to smoky gray, so the dark wall reads as textured rather than flat. Against it, the garden of white roses, grasses and olive trees stands out, and a gravel path of concrete stepping stones leads to the pale wood front door.
