The Story
High above downtown Los Angeles at the Conrad hotel, a custom ARTO cement tile runs through the bar and lounge and out onto the open-air terrace. The pattern sets long rounded ovals inside rectangular tiles in warm terracotta, charcoal, cream and blue-gray, laid in rows so the floor reads as a series of soft stripes. Indoors, the tile sits beneath a long wood-paneled bar, curved lounge chairs and rust velvet sofas, with tall windows looking out to the city towers. Outside, the same floor carries on under a low white sectional and wood dining tables, tying the inside and outside spaces together. Sunlight across the handcrafted tile brings out the gentle color shifts within each piece.
