TUCSON, Ariz. — ARTO Brick and California Pavers, the Southern California manufacturer of handcrafted ceramic tile, concrete tile, brick veneer, and architectural pavers since 1966, announced the expansion of its U.S. manufacturing footprint with a new 130,000-square-foot facility on 8 acres at 3430 E 36th St in Tucson, Arizona.

From a Venice Milk Route in 1966 to Two Southwestern Plants

In the late 1950s, Arto Alajian left Heliopolis, Egypt, and arrived in Venice, California. While running a morning milk route house to house and restaurant to restaurant across Venice, he met muralist Irene Birkenbreiter and began making thin clay brick veneers to frame her murals. By 1966, the brick outpaced the milk, and ARTO was born.

Sixty years later, ARTO is a multi-material hard-surface works. Operating alongside the company’s longtime headquarters and factory at 15209 S Broadway in Gardena, California, the new Tucson property spans three connected buildings (including a 40-foot-clear, 60,000-square-foot Center Building, an 18-foot-clear, 40,000-square-foot South Building, and a 30,000-square-foot North Building with a two-story interior) on 8 acres.
