The Story
The University of Redlands train station uses ARTO's Studio ceramic tile to give its open-air pavilion a warm, hand-laid floor. Under the colonnade, Monrovia Red rectangles are set in a basketweave pattern punctuated by small Black Diamond squares, and the same pattern borders the platform edges. At the center of the pavilion, the floor shifts to an Arabesque field in Monrovia Red, arranged in a sweeping curve and dotted with handpainted deco inserts in cream, teal and black. Small diamond decos are also set into the cream cornice above. The glossy red glaze, with soft shifts in tone, picks up the terracotta roof tiles and gives the station a colorful path from street to platform.
