Casa Durant, Long Beach

At Casa Durant in Long Beach, a white-walled Spanish-style courtyard wraps around a curved pool and spa. The ground is laid in ARTO's handcrafted Artillo concrete tile in Cotto Dark, a warm terracotta tone set on the diagonal, with small colorful accent inserts dotting the grout corners. The same squares step down the stairs beside the pool, continue to a courtyard fountain outside the bedroom doors, and lead out through the front gate along the entry walk, where painted tile risers climb toward the door. The soft, slightly varied color of each piece gives the courtyard a lived-in, old-world warmth that sits easily with the potted plants, wrought iron and blue pool tile.
